Utilities Are Trying Enormous 'Flow' Batteries Big Enough to Oust Coal Power Plants To help replace power plants, Japan's northernmost island, Hokkaido, "is turning to a new generation of batteries designed to stockpile massive amounts of energy," reports the Washington Post.
